Art of Cooking Day 2- Brooks and Sarah

Today in Art of cooking we begin to learn the process of making a breakfast meal, and different ways of doing so. We began with the many styles of eggs and how to properly cook an egg for each style. We learned how to scramble, poach, fry, boil and sunny side up an egg. Eggs were going to be a main dish in our meal, but since they cook quickly, we would be preparing them last. Next, we diced potatoes and began to create a seasoning. We used garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and paprika. We then took our diced potatoes and put them in a pan to roast them to a nice golden brown. Once they looked cooked we applied our seasoning. After finishing our potatoes we then moved onto our pancakes. We learned how to make pancakes from scratch. We started by putting our dry ingredients together and sifting them, we then combined them with the wet ingredients, and began to stir them all together. Many groups found that they stirred too much which lead to some pancakes being a little tough and dense. After stirring we poured our mix onto a griddle and watched as our pancakes began to form. Some groups flavor added cinnamon on top of their pancakes or put it in their mix to add flavor. We finished off the day by making 2 our different types of eggs. We were able to incorporate new knife skills we learned yesterday into our preparation, which we all thought was really helpful. Today was really interesting because we took a super easy, quick meal, and learned different techniques to really transform a simple breakfast into a delicious feast.
